Changes To Sydney Basin Airspace Are Now In Effect

These changes safely integrate new flight paths. They also maintain capacity, efficiency and separation for aircraft.

The Sydney basin now has 4 neighbouring control zones:

  • Western Sydney International Airport
  • Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport
  • Bankstown Airport
  • Camden Airport.

Airservices Australia has introduced new controlled airspace and updated some procedures and visual flight rules (VFR) routes to support safe and efficient operations across the region.

Pilots will need to follow new procedures, including coded clearances at Bankstown Airport and carrying a transponder in the new Class D airspace.

Approval to fly drones

If you operate a drone, check a CASA-verified drone safety app before you fly. It shows where you can fly and if you need approval.

If you need to fly in controlled airspace, apply for approval early.
