Charge laid after Junee man's death, NSW

Strike Force investigators have charged a man after another man died in hospital following an alleged ‘one punch’ assault in Junee at the weekend, NSW Police say.

About 12.45am on Saturday 15 December 2018, a 58-year-old man was found critically injured outside a club on Broadway Street, Junee.

Emergency services attended and treated the injured man at the scene before he was taken to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital, where he later died.

Strike Force Freebairn was established, comprising officers from Riverina Police District, with the assistance of detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with affray and assault.

He appeared at Wagga Wagga Bail Court on Saturday 15 December 2018, where he was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 16 January 2019.

Following further inquiries, a 68-year-old man attended Parramatta Police Station about 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 December 2018), where he was arrested and charged with assault occasioning death.

The man, from Junee, was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on 23 January 2019.
