Charge over Haymarket pedestrian fatality

A man has been charged following the death of a pedestrian at Haymarket earlier this year.

A 61-year-old man was attempting to cross Sussex Street about 3.40am on Sunday 24 March 2019 when he was struck by a hatchback being driven by a man, then aged 47.

The older man suffered critical head injuries and died in St Vincent's Hospital on three weeks later.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command have been investigating the incident and yesterday (Friday 18 October 2019), served the driver with a Future Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for negligent driving occasioning death.

The 48-year-old man, from Ramsgate Beach, is due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 27 November 2019.
