Charges after vehicle thefts in Ayr, QLD

An 18-year-old man has been charged after several vehicles were allegedly stolen and a police car was rammed in Ayr yesterday, Queensland Police say.

Around 9.20am officers patrolling in Queen Street attempted to intercept a Kia Cerato alleged to have been stolen from a Hans Christian Street address in Sarina earlier in the morning.

When officers activated their lights and sirens it will be alleged the driver accelerated away at speed and evaded police.

A short time later police attended a Graham Street residence where it will be alleged a female occupant had been assaulted before her Mazda 3 sedan was stolen.

Around 11.40am as officers were patrolling Irving Street a Road Policing Command vehicle was allegedly rammed by a stolen Peugeot hatchback.

The officer was not injured but the police vehicle was damaged.

An 18-year-old Ingham man has been charged with four counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary and one count each of dangerous driving and wilful damage.

He is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Investigations into the incidents are continuing.
