Charges after woman hit in face with glass bottle at Homebush music festival, NSW

A woman has been treated for cuts to her face after a man allegedly threw a bottle at a music festival at Sydney Olympic Park overnight.

Police will allege a security officer was responding to an unrelated incident when he was punched in the face by an 18-year-old man about 6.45pm (Saturday 26 January 2019).

The same man then allegedly picked up a glass bottle and threw it at the guard; however, it missed him and instead hit an 18-year-old woman from Ryde. The bottle broke on impact and she had to be treated at the scene for facial lacerations.

When the man ran away, police and security began looking for him.

About 9.40pm, three officers from South West Metropolitan Region approached the man over the earlier incidents.

Police will allege the man became aggressive and a struggle ensued, with officers using OC spray to take him into custody. They allege the man then spat at an officer.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, common assault, assault police, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 27 January 2019).
