Charges laid after woman assaulted, NSW

Police have charged a woman after an alleged assault on the state’s North Coast, NSW Police say.

About 5.45pm on Friday 6 October 2017, a man and woman were outside a grocery store on Jonson Street, Byron Bay, when they were approached by a 40-year-old woman who yelled at the pair.

The two women became involved in an argument, before they began to allegedly assault one another. During the altercation, police will allege a 31-year-old woman struck the 40-year-old woman across the forearm with a broken bottle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene, before taking her to Byron Bay Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command established a crime scene and began to canvass the area.

A short time later, police located the man and woman nearby, where they were arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.

The younger woman was charged with malicious wounding and affray. She was refused bail and is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.

The man was released without charge.
