Charges laid over attempted carjacking, NSW

Police have charged a man over an alleged attempted carjacking in the Lake Illawarra region earlier this year, NSW Police say.

Just before 8.30am on Thursday 27 June 2018, police will allege a man approached a car stopped at the lights at the intersection of Arnold Crescent and Kingsley Drive, Lake Heights.

It will be alleged in court the man threatened the driver, a 72-year-old man, and passenger, a 71-year-old woman, before stealing the car keys and attempting to steal the car.

No one was physically injured.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Silverwater about 10.50am yesterday (Thursday 6 September 2018).

He was charged with robbery, and assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle and refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 7 September 2018).
