Charges over break-in, assault near Forster, NSW

Police have charged a man following investigations into an alleged break-in and assault of a woman in Diamond Beach at the weekend, NSW Police say.

Police from Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command were called to a home on Panorama Drive about 1.30am on Saturday 6 May 2017, after a man allegedly entered the home.

The man allegedly confronted a 77-year-old woman before assaulting her and fleeing the scene.

The woman was taken to Manning Base Hospital for treatment.

A crime scene was established at the woman’s home and officers from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

About 2.30pm today, a 25-year-old man was stopped on the Pacific Highway, Nabiac, by officers from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command.

He was taken to Forster Police Station where he was interviewed and charged with a range of offences including aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (people there), and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He was refused bail and will appear in Taree Local Court tomorrow.
