Charges - Prohibited substances - Tiwi Islands

Police at Wurrumiyanga have located 143grams of cannabis, a 700ml bottle and two 375ml bottles of spirits on a ferry that arrived in the community this morning.

Acting on information received, members searched the ferry upon its arrival and discovered the illicit substances, Northern Territory Police say.

A 28-year-old male was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 2 drug (trafficable quantity) and possession of liquor in a restricted area.

"This is a stark reminder that if you attempt to bring liquor and or drugs into remote communities you will be caught," said Acting Senior Sergeant David Young.

"This is also a great example of the community working collaboratively with police in order to disrupt and prevent the supply of drugs and alcohol in Wurrumiyanga."
