Charges: Stolen Car Delays Anzac Parade

Police have charged a teenage boy following an incident involving an alleged stolen vehicle that disrupted the ANZAC Day Parade at Riverway in Townsville on April 25.

Around 9am, the parade was delayed by approximately 20 minutes due to a police operation involving a RAM utility, allegedly stolen from a Pimlico address shortly after 6:45am.

The vehicle had reportedly been involved in a number of alleged hit and run accidents earlier that morning in Thuringowa.

As a precaution, the parade was diverted onto nearby pathways instead of proceeding along the main roadway. The march resumed approximately 20 minutes later and without incident.

The stolen RAM utility was located by police at 11:15am at Paddington Terrace, Douglas.

A 15-year-old Kelso boy has since been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of armed robbery. He is due to appear in the Townsville Childrens Court this morning.

Police would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
