Investigators have upgraded charges after a man died in hospital following a crash in Sydney's west earlier this year.
Emergency services were called to Hewitt Street, near Roper Road at Colyton about 7.45pm on Monday 22 March 2021, after a white Toyota Rav4 and a silver Holden Commodore collided head-on.
The Rav4 driver, an 18-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
His two female passengers did not require medical treatment.
The Holden driver, a 55-year-old man, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition with spinal injuries.
Investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced an investigation.
As part of initial inquiries, the 19-year-old man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for cause bodily harm by wilful neglect in charge of motor vehicle, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-driver manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm. He remains before the courts.
Last month, the Holden driver was transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital, where he died yesterday (Thursday 6 May 2021).
As a result, investigators attended a home on Woodville Road, Guildford, and arrested the 18-year-old man about 5pm yesterday.
He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-driver manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death) and breach of bail.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 7 May 2021).
