The Corowa Art Space is delighted to host solo exhibition, 'Wingspan' by local Federation visual artist Sophie Chauncy.

Sophie's drawing practice is shaped by a lifelong connection to the rural landscapes of southern New South Wales. Growing up on a farm in Coleambally and later by the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point has given her a profound appreciation for the natural environment.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook expressed her enthusiasm for the exhibition.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sophie's beautiful new exhibition to the Corowa Art Space," Mayor Cook said.

"Her work captures the unique essence of our local and regional landscapes, and it's wonderful to see an artist from our own community gain such recognition."

Based in Morundah, NSW, Sophie has a notable history of artistic achievements, including her 2024 solo exhibition Trails at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery and Going Feral at the Museum of the Riverina in 2023. Her work has been shaped by prestigious artist residencies, including the Wooleen Station Artist Residency in 2023 and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery RAD Residency in 2022, where she had dedicated time and space to create and develop her art.

This exhibition takes flight through the theme of wings, celebrating the vibrant and diverse birdlife found across Australia's varied landscapes. It's an exploration of flight, movement, and the playful presence of birds as they inhabit and enliven the natural world.

Mayor Cook said the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for our community to connect with art that reflects the beauty we see every day.

"I encourage everyone, from families to bird-watching enthusiasts, to visit and be inspired by Sophie's incredible talent," she said.

Sophie Chauncy: Wingspan will be on display at Corowa Art Space from 18 September to 19 October 2025. Entry is free. Opening hours are Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Find out further information about the Corowa Art Space here.
