Chemical burns, COVID-19 precautions and more about maritime safety

Following a chemical burn to a crew member's eye, Maritime NZ has issued advice about safe handling of chemicals on ships, including carrying a neutralising solution, such as Diphoterine.

The information is in the February issue of the monthly, online safety newsletter, SeaChange.

This issue also promotes Ministry of Health updates about COVID-19 (coronavirus). Recent border advisories have included specific requirements for cruise ships and other vessels arriving in New Zealand and for New Zealanders working on visiting vessels, such as pilots and stevedores.

Maritime NZ Director, Keith Manch, said the focus of SeaChange is "putting safety first".
