A child has died in hospital as a woman remains before the court charged over an alleged fatal stabbing in the Blue Mountains area.
About 12.45pm on Sunday 20 September 2026, emergency services responded to reports of three children and a woman suffering from alleged stab wounds in a vehicle on Waratah Road, Valley Heights.
Officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command attended and were told several members of the public performed first aid on the woman and three children whilst contacting Triple Zero.
One of the children - aged 5 - was located deceased in the vehicle.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the two children - aged 1 and 3 - and the woman - aged 42 - at the scene, before they were conveyed to hospital.
Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command established Strike Force Karelo to investigate the incident.
Following inquiries, on Tuesday 22 September 2026, the 42-year-old woman was charged with murder (DV) and two counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV).
Today (Thursday 24 September 2026), police were notified that the 1-year-old child had died in hospital.
The 3-year-old child remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The woman will face an additional charge of murder over the death of the 1-year-old child and is next due to appear before Penrith Local Court on Friday 20 November 2026.
