  • Free information sessions to support Western Australian organisations to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • Part of Cook Labor Government's commitment to implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
  • Children's Week held from Saturday, 18 October to Sunday, 26 October 2025

The State Government has today reaffirmed its commitment to creating a child-safe Western Australia to mark the start of Children's Week 2025.

As part of its ongoing commitment to keeping children and young people safe, the State Government is hosting free webinars on the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations this week to help prevent organisational abuse and harm.

The events will focus on creating awareness of the National Principles, with the Child Safe Organisations Seminar on 24 October spotlighting the participation of children and young people in organisational decision-making.

Events are aimed at providing support to both metropolitan and regional organisations to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, with organisations encouraged to hold their own event and utilising resources available via the Child Safe Organisations Knowledge Hub.

Children's Week 2025 is being held from Saturday, 18 October to Sunday, 26 October 2025 with the theme 'Everyone should know about Children's Rights!'.

The events support the State Government's commitment to creating a child-safe Western Australia and the recommendations outlined in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses for Child Sexual Abuse (the Royal Commission).

The State Government is continuing to progress recommendations of the Royal Commission, including establishing the Supporting Communities Forum and the Child Safe Organisations Working Group to progress a collaborative model of implementation and provide advice to the government.

Other work by the State Government to strengthen child safety includes the recently held public consultation on potential reforms to Western Australia's Working with Children Scheme.

The changes aim to strengthen protections for WA children under theWorking with Children (Screening) Act 2004.

Public consultation closed on 23 September 2025 with a review of the submissions underway.
