Christmas Waste Collection Services: Bayside

The festive season brings joy and celebration, but it also generates significantly more household waste.

Council's Waste collection continues as normal over the Christmas and New Year period.

Below are some Council tips to help households dispose of Christmas waste and keep Bayside clean and safe during this holiday season.

Don't bin batteries

Do not put batteries in waste bins, as they can cause fires in collection vehicles. Take them to approved drop-off points or to a Council Community Recycling Drop-Off Event.

Wrap smarter and recycle right

Plain paper wrapping can go in the yellow recycling bin. Wrapping with glitter, foil or metallic finishes cannot be recycled and should go in the red bin.

Christmas trees

Cut real trees into smaller pieces for the green garden bin or book a bulky waste collection. If artificial trees are still in good condition, consider donating them.

Flatten cardboard before recycling

This helps create space in your yellow bin during the busy holiday period. Extra cardboard can be saved for a Council recycling event or your next bulky waste collection.

Food Waste

Food scraps do not belong in green bins. Planning portions and freezing leftovers can help reduce waste, while unavoidable food scraps should go in the red bin.

Use the A-Z Guide

Clean recyclables go loose in the yellow bin, garden vegetation goes in the green bin, and everything else goes in the red bin.

Recycle Right

Clean aluminium foil can be scrunched and placed loose in the yellow bin. Polystyrene cannot be recycled in yellow bins and should be taken to a Council Community Recycling Drop-Off Event.

Placing items loose in the yellow bin helps sorting facilities recover more materials and improves recycling quality.

Before discarding items, consider whether they can be reused, repaired, donated or sold to help reduce landfill and support a more sustainable Bayside.
