A Caroline Springs woman who tossed a burning cigarette from a Toyota on Taylors Rd, Delahey, will pay $3,669 after taking her littering fine to court.
EPA Victoria issued the woman with a littering fine after a witness reported her to the 24-hour pollution hotline, in 2023. The case went to the Sunshine Magistrates' Court, where the Magistrate fined the woman $769 and ordered her to pay EPA Victoria $2,900 in costs.
EPA says cigarette butts are the most common form of litter, they often find their way through drains and waterways to the bay, and lit cigarettes can cause fires if they land among grass or bush.
