City budget focused on 'keeping city moving'

Central Gold Coast East-West Transport Study

The 2023-24 capital works program will be the largest in the City's history, with a record $777 million allocated to building infrastructure across the Gold Coast.

"This is a 'building budget' – a budget that is 'building for the future' now, including $378 million on transport and roads infrastructure,'' said Mayor Tom Tate.

"This is a remarkable investment from our $2.2 billion City Budget,'' he said.

"Before we drafted the 2023-24 budget, we called on Gold Coasters to have their say – and they did in record numbers. More than 6100 responded and they made it clear the road network was the number one City service most valued.

"In 2023-24, we will invest $190.78 million in the road network as well as $35.7 million on transport improvements and a further $54 million on road resealing and pavement work.

"This has been a tough budget to shape given Council's costs have also risen substantially, just like the costs for families and small businesses, but we must continue to upgrade and maintain our transport network."

Mayor Tate said the city had 3260 kilometres of sealed roads and 1945 kilometres of pathways as well as 292 road and pedestrian bridges.

"I applaud councillors and the administration for their efforts in shaping our 2023-24 City Budget. We will continue to reform our organisation to ensure we deliver value-for-money in our operational and delivery areas.

"This budget delivers for all, to keep our growing city moving."
