City Of Canada Bay And WIRES Inner West Branch Launch New Agreement To Support Local Wildlife Volunteers

The City of Canada Bay has reached a new agreement with WIRES Inner West Branch, strengthening their long-standing partnership and ensuring continued support for the vital work of local wildlife volunteers.

Council staff recently met with WIRES representatives to discuss ongoing collaboration and formalise new initiatives that will assist volunteers who care for injured and displaced native animals.

Mayor of the City of Canada Bay, Michael Megna, praised the dedication of WIRES volunteers and said the new agreement reflects Council's renewed commitment to working closely with the organisation.

"WIRES volunteers provide an invaluable service to our community, rescuing and caring for native wildlife across Sydney and beyond," Mayor Megna said.

"Our area has less than one square kilometre of bushland, so we have an important responsibility to protect and nurture our urban forest, while also enabling WIRES volunteers to do their essential work."

"This new agreement will ensure we can better support volunteers, providing improved access to the greenery and habitats they need to safely and effectively care for native wildlife."

"We're incredibly grateful for the work of WIRES volunteers and we encourage residents who are passionate about protecting our native animals to consider getting involved."

A spokesperson for WIRES Inner West Branch welcomed the strengthened partnership and formal agreement with the City of Canada Bay.

"We are deeply grateful for the support of the City of Canada Bay", said Emily Saker, Vice Chair, WIRES Inner West Branch.

"This partnership will play a vital role in helping us provide food for the wildlife in our care before they are released back into their natural habitat. I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for their ongoing support of WIRES Inner West Branch."

"With such an incredible diversity of wildlife in the area, Council's help enables us to continue to rehabilitate and release the ever-increasing numbers of animals coming into care."

The City of Canada Bay and WIRES Inner West Branch are calling on community members to consider volunteering with WIRES to help protect and rehabilitate native wildlife.
