City of Playford's Australia Day is back in full swing for 2023

Playford's biggest free breakfast returns in full after a two year hiatus

The City of Playford is excited to announce its Australia Day Breakfast is back in full swing for 2023.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said the City of Playford is excited to see Australia Day celebrations return to a full-sized event after two years of Covid restrictions.

"I'm delighted to see the reactivation of one of our most popular community events. Our Australia Day breakfast is a special time for our city - it's a chance to reconnect

and enjoy an array of family-friendly festivities," Mayor Docherty said.

"Once again, our community's dedicated volunteer groups will be firing up the grills to put on Playford's biggest and free barbecue breakfast."

"We have a choc-a-bloc morning of events, including live entertainment and plenty of free rides."

"Everyone will have a chance to play some of our nation's favourite sports, including Aussie Rules - I'm sure all the Centrals fans will enjoy the home ground advantage while having a kick."

Popular television icon, Andrew 'Cosi' Costello will once again host this year's celebrations. He will be accompanied by Playford's Australia Day Ambassador Major-General (Retd) Vikram Madan.

General Vikram served for four decades in the elite Gurkha Regiment, where he twice received medals by the President of India for services of a distinguished order to the nation. In 2019 Vikram was awarded Medal in the Order of Australia for his outstanding contribution to multicultural affairs.

Major-General Vikram will be assisting Mayor Glenn Docherty in the presentation of our Australia Day awards.

Last year's Citizen of the Year, Anthony Hill said the awards are a way to recognise the many people doing great work in the community.

"The awards are a great way to recognise the important work people do in the community. I hope we see the next generation being encouraged to get involved now and for the Australia Day awards to reflect our diverse community," he said.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said he looks forward to the award ceremony at the event. "Our Australia Day Awards ceremony is our opportunity as a community to recognise and champion the unique people who make Playford so special."

This event is supported by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council. Playford's Australia Day breakfast is at X Convenience Oval on Thursday 26 January at 8am.
