The City of Swan’s Australia Day celebrations today recognised new citizens and local unsung heroes at Stirling Square, Guildford.

Seventy people from 18 countries became Australian citizens while four individuals, one community group and one community event received a Community Citizen of the Year Award for their valuable contributions to the Swan community.

The City of Swan congratulates the 2022 Community Citizen of the Year Award recipients:

  • Mandy Mountford, Community Citizen of the Year
  • Janice O’Shea, Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Josiah Dunjey, Young Community Citizen of the Year
  • Talitha Huston, Young Community Citizen of the Year
  • Bullseye Youth Committee Centre, Active Citizenship Award
  • Woodbridge Riverside Parkrun, Active Citizenship Award

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the annual event was an opportunity to celebrate our community, country and achievements and recognise our resilience in recent challenging times.

“It is always a pleasure to welcome new citizens and recognise and celebrate those in our community who go above and beyond their call of duty to help and support their fellow community members,” he said.

“As with each year, it was an incredibly difficult to choose the final recipients, with so many worthy nominees submitted.

“I am overcome with pride for our valuable Swan community members, who remain a daily inspiration.”

Due to State Government restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the City was unable to hold a community event this year, but it was broadcast so that invited guests were able to share the occasion with their extended family.

The event was hosted by the City of Swan and assisted by the Australia Government through the National Australia Day Council.
