City's Gender Equity Action in National Spotlight

The City of Ballarat has been named a finalist in the Australian HR Institute Awards for its dynamic and inclusive approach to ensuring gender equality in the workplace.

In 2017-18 and in consultation with its staff, the City implemented a holistic Gender Equity Strategy and Action Plan to create a workplace where women and men are equally represented, valued and rewarded.

The workplace strategy stresses 50/50 gender split by 2020 and asks the question if not why not?

Nominated for the Dame Quentin Bryce Gender Equity Award, Ballarat is midway through its two-year strategy and has progressed more than 60% of its planned actions.

The Strategy and Action Plan are driven by a committee of executive Managers, staff and Chief Executive Officer, Justine Linley, reflecting a cross-organisational focus.

The City's action plan has driven improvements in gender inequality, including pay parity; representation at executive management level and in leadership roles and changing attitudes towards women working at all levels of the organisation.
