City to commence construction of new roundabout at Camp and Church Streets, Kangaroo Flat

The City of Greater Bendigo will commence works on Monday May 25 to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Camp and Church Streets, Kangaroo Flat to improve the safety of the area.

There has been three casualty accidents at the intersection since 2013.

City of Greater Bendigo Engineering Manager Brett Martini said due to the nature of the construction the intersection will be closed to traffic with detours in place for the duration of the works.

"This project involves the construction of a new roundabout complete with drainage, concrete kerbs, lighting, signage and line marking upgrades to improve the safety of this intersection," Mr Martini said.

"The City of Greater Bendigo is committed to ensuring local communities have the infrastructure needed to meet future demands.

"This is a busy part of Kangaroo Flat that adjoins the commercial area and is a key linkage to other parts of Bendigo so the new roundabout will provide much improved traffic flows in the area.

"Significant temporary detours which may affect landowners, business operators and residents from accessing their properties will be put in place in Camp Street (east of Church Street), Tarran Court, Station Street and Chapel Street.

"The contractors undertaking this project will work with affected residents to provide access to and from properties in the area.

"Depending on the weather and COVID-19 requirements we expect this project will be completed by the end of July."

The project is being funded by a $366,500 grant from the Federal Government's Black Spot Programme.
