City to reopen affected facilities

The City will move to reopen facilities and resume services under the new directions, following the welcome decision to lift the 'circuit breaker' restrictions on Victoria.

The City will assess the requirements and quickly implement the required COVID-safe measures to its wide range of operations and services.

Our Swim, Sport and Leisure centres, cultural venues and three previously operating Customer Service Centres (Brougham Street, Corio and Drysdale) will be among the facilities to reopen tomorrow.

The City will also reopen its corporate offices, with up to 50 per cent of the workforce again allowed to work on-site.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the community deserved praise for again making large sacrifices to protect the health and safety of Victorians.

"People have given so much over the past year to help bring multiple outbreaks under control," Mayor Asher said.

"The sudden nature of the lockdown placed a lot of financial and mental stress on people and local businesses already doing it tough, so this is a welcome reprieve and will hopefully restore some confidence in the way forward.

"I look forward to enjoying an extended period of consistency and getting our social and economic recovery back on track."

Mayor Asher said the Council had committed $16.9 million in support packages to assist the Greater Geelong community in dealing with the impacts from the global pandemic.

"It is vital that we do all we can to help our local residents, businesses, community organisations and groups get back on their feet again," Mayor Asher said.

"Council has invested heavily in providing a wide range of specific support measures, and I encourage anyone affected to contact our customer service team to find out how we may be able to assist them."
