City welcomes Bendigo Airport Labor election commitment

The City of Greater Bendigo has welcomed a Labor election commitment of $4.4M to further upgrade the Bendigo Airport terminal and precinct.

Should Labor win the election, the funds would assist in completing stage three of the airport redevelopment, which involves extending utilities access to land next to the new runway designated for future use by aviation-compatible businesses.

The funds would also go towards expanding the terminal building to accommodate future activity at the airport, including new flight routes, larger aircraft or other airlines wanting to operate out of Bendigo.

Mayor Cr Margaret O'Rourke said further redevelopment of the airport was a priority project for Council.

"The community's response to the launch of Bendigo to Sydney Qantas flights has been incredibly positive. We hope to have other routes or airlines operating out of Bendigo and it seems our community also wants this, so it will be necessary to have the infrastructure to support this demand," Cr O'Rourke said.

The City continues to seek $4.5M from the Victorian Government to also support the roll-out of these works.
