The Albanese Labor Government continues to support local councils to deliver high-priority local transport and community infrastructure projects in Melbourne.
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain, and Member for Melbourne, Sarah Witty, visited three projects today that highlight the Australian Government's support for local projects.
The City of Melbourne has received $750,000 for the three projects in North Melbourne under the Roads to Recovery program:
- Upgrading both sides of Wrecklyn Street from Courtney Street to Flemington Road, including the roundabout
- Asphalt roadway renewal on the section of Queensberry Street from Laurens Street to Dryburgh Street (excluding intersections)
- Renewal of both sides of Shiel Street from Canning Street to Haines Street, including the roundabout.
Roads to Recovery is an ongoing program delivered over five-year funding periods, giving local councils a stable and predictable funding source to determine and deliver road projects that respond to local priorities.
The Albanese Government has strengthened Commonwealth road programs, including doubling the Roads to Recovery Program to $1 billion per year, the Black Spot Program from $110 million to $150 million per year, as well as providing $200 million per year for the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.
