The City of Greater Bendigo has welcomed a Labor Party election commitment to invest $400,000 to improve footpaths in the Maiden Gully, Epsom and Strathfieldsaye areas.
Should Labor win the election, Greater Bendigo would be one of the first places where this funding would be rolled out, which aims to better connect the footpath network in growing communities.
Mayor Cr Margaret O'Rourke said the proposed funding complements Council's commitment to improve accessibility and connectivity for residents.
"A well planned footpath network makes it easier for people to walk to school and sports grounds, encourages people to be more active and helps people to feel safer when they are moving around," Cr O'Rourke said.
"Council would welcome the opportunity for Greater Bendigo to be a pilot site for this type of funding and to demonstrate the benefits of continued investment in this type of critical infrastructure by all levels of government."
