City welcomes metropolitan visitors

The City welcomes the removal of the metropolitan / regional border and other changes to Victoria's COVID-19 restrictions.

Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed that the 'Ring of Steel' would be removed from 9 November, allowing freedom of travel throughout Victoria.

As part of a further easing of restrictions, indoor cultural venues such as museums and galleries will be able to open and host up to 20 people per space.

The City will assess the changes and quickly implement the required COVID-safe measures to the affected operations and services.

With the same rules now applying across the state, the City is well placed to welcome an influx of visitors during the remainder of Spring and Summer.

As part of an earlier COVID-19 economic support package, the Council allocated $500,000 to support three targeted tourism and events campaigns.

These included a Domestic Short Break campaign ($200,000), a Visiting Family and Friends campaign ($150,000) and a Business Events Program ($150,000).

As part of its marketing campaign, the City is encouraging both residents and visitors to 'Embrace the Space' and enjoy our beautiful outdoor areas in a COVID-safe manner.

With 133 kilometres of coastline, 90 square km of open space and 334 parks, there is plenty of opportunity for all residents and visitors to enjoy Greater Geelong while embracing space and staying safe.

The City urges the community members to continue to abide by the COVID-safe measures, such as maintaining a distance of 1.5 metres from others and wearing a face mask in public.
