Clean Break For Tuross Head Main Beach

Eurobodalla Council will begin work to clear debris from the main beach at Tuross Head next week.

From Monday 27 of October the Clive Court carpark will be closed to vehicles as Council crews work to clear the main beach area. Large woody debris will either be mulched on site and redirected to the dunes or realigned to stabilise dunes, with a small portion left near the rock outcrops to maintain habitat and natural beach structure.

Councillors unanimously agreed to a one-off clear up of the beach earlier this year. This work required a string of approvals and $55,000 needed to fund the work.

Staff have undertaken a full review of environmental factors to ensure public safety, protect habitat and meet legislation governing NSW coastal environments. Permits were sought and obtained from Fisheries and the Batemans Marine Park – these guide how and when the clean up proceeds. As part of those conditions, a shorebird survey was undertaken by the National Parks and Wildlife Service earlier this month.
