Clear garage for Cairns' biggest sale

Bargain hunters will be out in force later this month, when Cairns' Biggest Garage Sale takes to the streets to celebrate Neighbour Day.

Residents wanting to clear some space are invited to register a garage sale for Saturday 30 March.

Deputy Mayor Terry James said the aim of the day was to encourage neighbourly interaction while promoting reuse of pre-loved items.

"A garage sale is a great way to get to know your neighbours," Cr James said. "Plus, you can get rid of items you no longer need but which might useful to someone else.

"The more people register their address for a garage sale, the more people will get out and about, meeting their neighbours finding a bargain or two in the process."

Cairns' Biggest Garage Sale is part of Neighbour Day, which celebrates the benefits that come from being part of a neighbourhood.

"Knowing our neighbours can help us to feel safer and more connected in our communities and can improve our wellbeing," Cr James said.

"If you don't know your neighbours, Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to get out and say 'hi'."

Cairns Biggest Garage Sale is presented by Cairns Regional Council in partnership with Star FM. To register an address, visit www.star1027.com.au.

All registered garage sale hosts will go into the draw to win a Ziggy barbecue – one winner will be drawn for each of Council's nine divisions.
