The potential redevelopment of Cleland Wildlife Park has taken the next step with the State Government now investigating a market-led development process.
The current vision concept for Cleland Wildlife Park is for a $150 million redevelopment of the park and further options of a cable car and a hotel in the Mount Lofty Precinct.
Minister for Environment and Water David Speirs said the government has a clear vision for Cleland Wildlife Park and would now involve the private sector to explore redevelopment options.
"We have a fantastic opportunity to create a world-class nature-based attraction in South Australia for locals as well as domestic and international tourists," said Minister Speirs.
"Our vision is to deliver premier and unique guest experience that promotes conservation and knowledge of South Australia’s native species and draw visitors to our State.
"This Project will transform one of South Australia’s most loved environmental assets to generate tourism exports, activate commercial opportunities for the private sector, create new and high value jobs and support regional economic development.
"A number of artist impressions have been prepared to express what may be possible to be delivered at a new Cleland Wildlife Park.
"These impressions focus on keeping the best elements of Cleland that are already valued by locals and visitors, whilst dramatically improving guest experience.
"Development done in the right way will help preserve this beautiful natural resource while further activating the Adelaide Hills and increasing local job opportunities."
Under the market-led development process the private sector would propose redevelopment plans to the government based on the established vision and objectives rather than the government identifying the specific redevelopment plan to be implemented.
Stakeholder engagement and community consultation will be done to seek the level of support for the redevelopment of Cleland and activation of the broader Mount Lofty precinct.
