MidCoast Councillors approved the closure of the temporary Glen Court access road at their 25 February meeting, with the Seabreeze Parade, Blackhead extension to provide the permanent access route.
The timing and details of the closure depend on the developer, and it may be some time before the physical closure takes place. Closure can only occur once Seabreeze Parade is constructed. Construction of the Seabreeze Parade extension is now underway.
The temporary Glen Court access road was originally constructed in 1994 to provide interim access from Blackhead Road to the emerging 63‑lot residential subdivision.
Once closed, the relevant portion of land will be returned to the developer.
The closure of the temporary access triggers a series of obligations for the developer, including completion of footpath connections, kerb and gutter works on both Blackhead Road and Glen Court, as well as dedicating a portion of the closed lot to Council as a public reserve.
A cul‑de‑sac has already been constructed at the Glen Court end in anticipation of the eventual conversion of Glen Court to a no‑through road.
The closure of the temporary Glen Court access will redirect estate traffic to use Seabreeze Parade and High Street as the primary entry and exit route. This change reflects the long‑term road network planning for the estate and aligns with the completion of the Seabreeze Parade extension.
While the revised traffic pattern will require some adjustment from residents, it will ultimately provide a safer and more appropriate movement network designed to current standards.
A future secondary access point is also proposed near Diamond Beach Road, which will enhance network resilience, distribute traffic loads more evenly and improve emergency access options for the estate. This planned connection will support the long‑term growth and accessibility of the area.
