CLP, CDU Launch Academy to Boost Student Success

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering more opportunities for Territory students than ever before, with Casuarina Senior College (CSC) partnering with Charles Darwin University (CDU) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the CDU Academy.

The MoU builds on the CLP Government's secondary education reforms here, which include plans to establish a higher education-focused college at CSC, creating direct pathways into in-demand professions such as teaching and healthcare.

CSC students will gain a head start on their tertiary studies, completing university units for credit towards future degrees while still finishing high school.

Minister for Education and Training Jo Hersey said the CLP Government continues to deliver for education in its year of action, certainty and security.

"Having been in power 19 of the past 23 years Labor delivered a middle and high school model they knew was letting down Territorians," she said.

"Our Government is progressing important Secondary school reforms, identifying partnerships and opportunities for students to step straight from school into a trade, job or university degree right here in the Territory.

"This initiative will keep students in the Territory and build a skilled workforce for the future.

"Growing our own means creating real pathways to meaningful employment and helping young people build strong and secure futures."

The CDU Academy's initial focus will be on health-related subjects, with plans to expand into education and other disciplines in the years ahead.

Quotes attributable to Charles Darwin University (CDU) Pro Vice-Chancellor Faculty of Health, Professor Dominic Upton:

"The CDU Academy is a transformative initiative that gives Northern Territory students the opportunity to experience university life while still at school. It's about removing barriers, sparking ambition, and showing students what's possible in their own backyard.

"By working closely with Casuarina Senior College, we're creating a seamless and supported transition into higher education. It's an investment in our local talent pipeline and a powerful way to keep bright, motivated students connected to the Territory."
