The Finocchiaro CLP Government is upgrading the intersection of Bees Creek Road and the Stuart Hwy.
Upgrades commence in September and respond to calls from the local community for a safer intersection.
Works will include extension of the left turn lane into a deceleration slip lane, culvert extension, streetlights upgrade and road safety barrier installation.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is getting on with improving safety at the busy Stuart Highway and Bees Creek Road intersection, with works set to begin in September.
The key intersection provides access to the Freds Pass Recreational Reserve, schools, day care centres and community services via Bees Creek Road.
Diggamen Civil Contracting has been awarded a $1.81 million contract to deliver upgrades at the intersection, which is used by an average of 2,600 motorists a day from the Freds Pass area and 14,000 motorists through the Stuart Highway.
The upgrades will:
extend the left-turn lane on the Stuart Highway into a deceleration slip laneupgrade the right-turn lane into Bees Creek Roadupgrade street lightingextend existing culverts to improve drainage at the intersectioninstall road safety barriers
It is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure Bill Yan said upgrading the intersection was important for the local community.
"We have listened to the safety concerns raised by the local community and Litchfield Council, and we are getting on with making this busy intersection safer," Minister Yan said.
"This upgrade is part of our focus on delivering the infrastructure Territorians need to live, work and do business.
Member for Goyder Andrew Mackay said the works were a welcome investment for rural communities and the thousands of motorists who rely on the intersection.
"After years of inaction under the previous government, the Finocchiaro CLP Government has listened to local concerns and acted," he said.
"This upgrade will provide safer access for local residents, visitors to the Freds Pass Reserve, and families and staff travelling to schools and childcare services in Bees Creek.
"We thank motorists for their patience while these important works are carried out, with temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits expected."
The Stuart Highway and Bees Creek Road intersection works form part of the Finocchiaro CLP Government's significant investment in Territory roads, with Budget 2026-27 delivering more than $2 billion in key transport infrastructure projects to improve safety, reliability, and access across the Territory.
