The Finocchiaro CLP Government is boosting power reliability in Ali Curung, delivering a new standby generator to keep the lights on during outages.

Minister for Essential Services Steve Edgington said the new $1.35 million 660kW standby generator was funded under the Indigenous Essential Services asset replacement program.

"Remote outages can't always be fixed quickly - this upgrade ensures Ali Curung has reliable backup power when it's needed most.

"This upgrade is a significant investment in Ali Curung's essential infrastructure. The new 660kW generator will provide stronger backup supply during outages and ensure the community has more reliable power when it is needed, supporting residents, businesses, the school and health clinic.

"Safety is our highest priority, and the replacement generator and associated upgrades will meet modern standards.

"This project is part of our ongoing work to improve critical infrastructure and provide secure, reliable electricity in remote communities," Mr Edgington said.

The generator replaces a smaller 380kW standby generator which was no longer fit for purpose.

Ali Curung is supplied via a 170km high-voltage line connected to the Tennant Creek regulated electricity network.
