CLP Strengthening Trade Ties With Indonesia

NT Government

As part of the Finocchiaro CLP Government's Rebuilding the Economy Strategy, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Gerard Maley, is leading a delegation of key NT livestock representatives to Indonesia this week.

Minister Maley said Indonesia is a priority market for the Northern Territory, accounting for around 90 per cent of all NT cattle exports.

"The Northern Territory cattle industry is currently worth around $1.2 billion, and the Territory Government is focused on advancing investment opportunities and growing our export markets," Mr Maley said.

"The visit will strengthen partnerships between the Northern Territory and Indonesia and reinforce the Territory's reputation as a long-term, reliable supplier of live cattle and buffalo as well as strengthen our boxed beef trade.

"The CLP Government is continuing to work hard to make the Territory the best place to do business and invest.

"It will also provide an opportunity to showcase our agricultural capability and our commitment to high quality, sustainable livestock production," Mr Maley said.

Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association and the NT Live Exporters Association, will accompany the delegation, demonstrating the strong government-industry partnerships that underpin collaboration, innovation and shared growth.

The visit includes meetings with senior Indonesian government officials, businesses and industry groups, and the Australian Embassy as well as feedlot visits.

The program will also include the official opening of Top End Beef P/L, a new butcher shop and steakhouse in Seminyak, showcasing premium Territory beef and celebrating the strong commercial ties between Indonesia and the Northern Territory.

The estimated total cost for the Minister and advisers is approximately $7,000. Final costs will be reported following the trip, in line with standard reporting processes.
