Media Release CLP Government secures nation's best pay deal for NT Police
7 September 2025
The Finocchiaro CLP Government has today finalised a new enterprise agreement with the Northern Territory Police Force, delivering the strongest pay deal in two decades and keeping NT police the highest paid in the nation.
Voting closed on Friday, with more than 61% of members casting their vote, and 92% voting in favour of the agreement.
The deal includes:
Annual salary and income-related increases of 5%, 4%, 3% and 3%.A 5% structural increase to the base salary of Aboriginal Community Police Officers (ACPOs) in the first year.Paid from 8th of August - date offer was put to the Northern Territory Police Association.A guarantee that if CPI exceeds 3% in the fourth year, members will receive an increase to match.
This is on top of generous existing entitlements, including housing allowances and unlimited sick leave.
Chief Minister and Police Minister Lia Finocchiaro said the agreement cements her government's commitment to police.
"We will continue to back in our police every day, every shift, every step of the way. This agreement reflects the respect we have for the hard work they do keeping Territorians safe.
NT Police are already the highest paid in the country, and this deal ensures Constables, Senior Constables, Sergeants and Senior Sergeants remain number one, with Superintendents the second highest nationally."
Minister for Public Service Jo Hersey said the CLP Government had delivered where Labor never could.
"We put three strong offers on the table and got this deal done. Under Labor, police were left waiting endlessly with no outcome.
This pay rise is well above current and projected CPI over the life of the agreement. It recognises the difficult work our officers do every day, helps retain our experienced members, and makes the NT an attractive option for recruits across Australia and New Zealand.
The Territory now offers the best pay in the country, a rewarding career, and a lifestyle you can't get anywhere else."
