A man has died following a hit-run collision in Cockatoo last month.
It is alleged a 44-year-old Cockatoo man who was driving a Ford Territory struck a cyclist on Pakenham Road about 3pm on Friday, 26 June.
The cyclist, a 47-year-old man of no fixed address, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He died in hospital this morning.
The driver of the Territory allegedly failed to stop at the scene, then dumped the vehicle at a nearby reserve on Hillside Road.
The 44-year-old was arrested on 27 June and at the time was charged with internationally cause serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
Homicide Squad are now investigating the matter and will consider whether the charges will be upgraded.
The Cockatoo man was remanded to next appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 18 September.
