The Victorian Greens have renewed their calls for the urgent phase out of coal across the state, in light of a Code Red announcement so early in the season.
Victorian Greens spokesperson for environment, Ellen Sandell MP, said the Victorian Labor Government could no longer ignore the truth about the climate emergency we've found ourselves in.
As stated by Victorian Greens spokesperson for environment, Ellen Sandell MP:
"Code Red bushfire conditions this early in November is terrifying.
"Many of the kids who attended the climate strikes now cannot attend class because their schools are closed due to dangerous bushfire weather, caused by climate change.
"This is exactly what scientists have warned us about, yet this Victorian Labor Government has extended the licenses for our coal plants which have caused this mess.
"If Premier Andrews wants to protect Victorians from bushfires then he must show leadership and announce a phase out of coal and rapid transition to renewable energy."
