Collingwood attempted robbery and assault

Melbourne Embona Robbery Taskforce detectives are investigating following an attempted robbery and assault in Collingwood in January, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told the victim, a 39-year-old Melbourne man, was approached by three men on Johnston Street about 3am on 27 January.

The group asked for a cigarette before punching him and causing him to fall to the ground.

The offenders also kicked him to the face and attempted to steal his wallet before fleeing the scene.

The man sustained minor injuries, including bruising and a laceration, and was taken to hospital.

Police have released images and CCTV footage of three men who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

One wore a black long-sleeved shirt; a second was wearing a hat backwards and carried a backpack and skateboard; and the third was wearing a white singlet and cap.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
