Renowned Australian sports commentator and passionate Western Australian, Dennis Cometti is fronting a new campaign to entice footy fans from the east coast to head west for the 2019 AFL season.
The Tourism WA campaign is currently running in Victoria and South Australia ahead of the 2019 season's first AFL game at Optus Stadium, where Fremantle will take on North Melbourne on Sunday March 24.
Campaign material includes radio and digital advertising in which Cometti urges fans to '…take a trip West with your team...' to discover the 'best footy experience in Australia.'
In the online videos, the veteran broadcaster can be seen showcasing the stunning setting, huge capacity and modern facilities of the world-class Optus Stadium, with picturesque vision also introducing the audience to Perth's award-winning bars, restaurants, beaches and wineries. Rottnest Island's internationally famous quokkas also feature as a drawcard for potential visitors.
Footy fans are also encouraged to extend their trip to WA to discover more about the State. The advertising ends with a call to action for people to book tickets and travel packages to WA.
The 2019 AFL tourism campaign follows a successful 2018 campaign, which saw an injection of $60 million in combined interstate and intrastate visitor expenditure into the WA economy as a result of the 2018 AFL season.
Figures from independent research show almost 30,000 interstate visitors specifically travelled to WA for an AFL match at Optus Stadium last season, and spent more than $30 million during their stay.
