Commissioner of Competition Issues Statement

Competition Bureau Canada

GATINEAU (Québec), Competition Bureau

Matthew Boswell, the Commissioner of Competition, has announced that he will end his term on December 17, 2025:

"With my term as Commissioner of Competition set to end in February 2026, I have decided, for personal reasons, that I will leave the role a little earlier.

"It has been a tremendous privilege to have worked with the incredible group of people at the Competition Bureau since I first joined the organisation in 2011. Since I became Commissioner in 2018, it has been the greatest honour of my career to lead such a remarkable team as they worked so diligently on behalf of all Canadians to protect and promote competition.

"Over the last seven and a half years, our goals have been to protect Canadians through proactive enforcement, to promote competition-enhancing policies at all levels of government in Canada, and to ensure our organization was resourced and ready to respond to the rapidly changing digital economy.

"I'm very proud of the Bureau team's incredible accomplishments as they delivered on each of these goals.

"I am also pleased that, beginning on December 18, 2025, Jeanne Pratt, Senior Deputy Commissioner, Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch, will become the acting Commissioner. As acting Commissioner, Jeanne will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Commissioner until a further announcement from the Government of Canada is made regarding the position. Jeanne is one of the most experienced competition practitioners in Canada and her strong leadership skills will be pivotal for the Bureau as they push forward.

"I know that, under Jeanne's leadership as acting Commissioner, the Bureau will continue to work tirelessly to deliver the vital benefits of competitive markets to Canadians: greater affordability, better and more innovative products and services, as well as increased productivity and economic growth."
