Commissioners Dunham and Gwynne Reappointed for Five Years

The Territory Labor Government have reappointed Colleen Gwynne as the Children's Commissioner and Stephen Dunham as the Health and Community Services Complaints Commissioner.

The two reappointments, both for five year appointments, were assented by the Administrator this week.

Colleen Gwynne returns to her role having effectively overseen the implementation of the significant reform agenda following on from the recommendations of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children.

She has an in-depth understanding of issues faced by families across the Northern Territory, including in remote communities.

The former Police Commander commenced the role in 2015, having decades of experience across policing and human services, including establishing the NT Child Abuse Taskforce.

Like Gwynne, Dunham also came into the role of Health and Community Service Complaints Commissioner in 2015, with an in-depth understanding of service and program delivery in the health and community services sector.

Mr Dunham, a former Health Minister, has extensive experience in public sector services delivery, and a strong track record over this term of commissioner, making him the preferred candidate for this role.

Quotes attributed to Attorney-General Natasha Fyles:

"Both Commissioners have delivered for Territorians in their respective roles and are respected and committed Territorians in their own rights.

"Gwynne in the role of Children's Commissioner has been at the coalface of significant change and legislation reform across the Northern Territory.

"Dunham has continued to deliver in the role of Health and Community Services Complaints Commissioner, handling the complaints from across the public health sector and providing recommendations to improve service quality.
