Communities salute service men and women

PROJECTS right across the country commemorating Australia's wartime heritage will be funded thanks to more than $265,000 in Saluting Their Service grants.

Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel Darren Chester said the Saluting Their Service Commemorations Program encourages an understanding and appreciation of the role that service personnel have played in shaping Australia as we know it today.

"The projects funded through Saluting Their Service highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia's service personnel in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations," Mr Chester said

"There are some fantastic projects under way right around Australia and these grants will assist ex-service organisations, community groups and local councils in completing them.

"The memory of our brave ADF personnel will live on through these projects, helping to leave a lasting legacy in these communities by educating future generations of Australians."

The Community Commemorative Grants category of Saluting Their Service provides up to $4,000 for each community based commemorative project or activity. Projects funded include honour rolls, improvements to already existing memorials including lighting and access, exhibitions and photographic displays.

"I encourage communities across Australia to apply for funding for their projects and activities that are eligible for the next round of Saluting Their Service grants," Mr Chester said.

Applications can be submitted on the Saluting Their Service Commemoration Program page on the Community Grants Hub. For support in submitting an application visit the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program page on the Department of Veterans' Affairs website.
