Our Knox community is making a significant contribution to reducing waste, with more than 2.2 million medication blister packs recycled through the Pharmacycle program across the last 4 years.
The program ensures the packs do not end up in landfill and are instead, processed and recycled into new products such as decking and fencing and products that support local manufacturing.
Residents can drop off their empty medication blister packs at the following participating pharmacies across Knox:
- Blooms The Chemist, Stud Park - shop 36, Stud Park Shopping Centre, Rowville
- Chemist Warehouse, Knoxfield - 622 Burwood Highway, Knoxfield
- Chemist Warehouse, First Health Medical Centre - G2, 1091 Stud Road, Rowville
- Chemist Warehouse, Ferntree Gully - Shop 5, 1015 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully
- Community Pharmacy, Wantirna - Shop 3 & 4, 348 Mountain Highway, Wantirna
- Chemist Warehouse, Westfield Knox - 622 Burwood Highway, Wantirna
- Discount Drug Store, Scoresby - Shop 3, 15 Darryl Street, Scoresby
- Rowville Community Pharmacy - Suite 4/1101 Wellington Road, Rowville
Medication blister packs cannot be recycled through household recycling bins because they are made from a combination of plastic and aluminium that is bonded together. Standard recycling facilities are unable to separate these materials during the recycling process.
Choosing to recycle blister packs at our local pharmacies is a simple but effective way we can all help reduce waste and create a more sustainable community.
