Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on the community to be mindful of their water usage over the summer months.

Water Councillor Donna Kirkland said if the community can assist with some water conservation, it will assist with the operation of the treatment plant during essential upgrades to the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant (GWTP).

"We are progressively upgrading the filters over the coming months which will put additional pressure on the remaining filters that are used to provide water to the region," Cr Kirkland said.

"Although the barrage is full, we are asking the community to be mindful of their water usage especially over the next few months.

"We will reassess the community's water usage in January and consider if we need to put any water restrictions in place while we carry out the filter upgrades.

"I want to be clear that we are not out of water, and there will be no impact to the safety or quality of our supply during the filtration upgrades.

"We are simply asking for people to be more water wise and be more mindful of their water consumption.

"Simple changes like limiting the watering of gardens and using hoses that are fitted with a trigger really can make all the difference.

"We understand that some people will have visitors over Christmas, and it may be difficult to conserve water with extra people in the house, but every little bit helps!

"Give it a go, you might be surprised with the little things you can do to make a difference to our water supply."
