Moira Shire Council has awarded grants to 20 projects across the shire, totalling $140,050, as part of the 2019/20 Community Strengthening Grants Program.

This program had a total budget of $254,000 and were offered in three categories - Major (up to $10,000), Minor (up to $5,000) and Quick Response (up to $1,000).

Mayor Libro Mustica said the Community Strengthening Grants were a great way to kick start a community initiative.

Community grants are a vital function of Moira Shire Council, Cr Mustica said.

This funding round saw eight projects awarded in the Minor Grants category and 12 in the Major Grants category.

These latest round of grants will help community groups right across the shire from Yarrawonga, Peechelba, Numurkah and Cobram to Katamatite, Waaia, St James and Katunga.

The Community Strengthening Grants program aims to support strategic goals identified in the Council Plan as well as supporting community organisations that provide diverse and effective local services, facilities and activities.

This program also aims to maximise the benefit of our investment by encouraging matching contribution and seeking of other external funding to support major projects and events.
