Community Grants Recipients Celebrated at Awards Night

Latrobe City Council held a special awards ceremony at the start of the month to celebrate the achievements of all recipients in the Community Grants and Sponsorship program for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 Rounds.

Across both rounds, a total of 155 applicants were successful in receiving funding for their projects and clubs. A total of $534,791 in funding was awarded for Community Grants and $46,015 for Community Sponsorship.

The Community Grants Program aims to support community initiatives, projects and events that support the local region. They have positive social and economic benefits for the broader community and ensure that community, volunteer, and not-for-profit organisations have additional funds to support their projects.

The Awards were held at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre and presentations were made under the categories of Minor Equipment; Minor Capital Works; Community Wellbeing; Community Event - Minor; Community Events - Significant and Community Sponsorship - Major.

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Darren Howe was very pleased to see what investments had been made into community groups and projects, and how this will contribute to a better future for all those living and visiting the region.

"This program is very important to our community and has resulted in the delivery of some truly outstanding projects that have strengthened our assets and infrastructure in the Latrobe city region," said the Mayor.

"As a Council, we were pleased to see an extensive selection of projects put forward for funding, demonstrating the diversity and creativity that exists in our community and Council's commitment to securing a sustainable and successful future."

The evening was hosted by Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan, who was Mayor of the day. Guest speaker, Nick King, attended the evening to share some inspiring words before the award presentation began. Nick received the Latrobe City Citizen of the Year award this year and is an experienced recreational specialist who delivers priority projects from inception through to completion.
