The second round of funding for the Northern Grampians Community Health and Wellbeing Grants is now open and taking applications.

The grants provide support to locally based groups and organisations to develop opportunities that will improve the lives of people in our communities.

Council is specifically seeking projects that align with the five key health and wellbeing goals of healthy eating, active living, mental wellbeing, preventing violence and physical injury, and supporting early years.

Recipients of the community health and wellbeing grants from round one include:

- Stawell West Primary School for their Buddy Benches in outdoor play spaces for students. The idea of these benches was to create a space that's comfortable, inviting, friendly and an excellent way to get students interacting with one another and supporting their peers who may be feeling isolated and lonely.

- North Central LGBTIQ Network for "Being Frank" live performance in St Arnaud.

The project provided a live performance called 'Being Frank' which followed the journey of a school student coming out as a transgender young person. We also met Frank's best mate, his mother, father and some of the people encountered during Frank's journey, exploring some of the joys, dilemmas and challenges that can be experienced by trans people, their friends and family members.

- Eventide Homes for the development of outdoor playground equipment for visiting playgroup, kindergarten and primary school children to use as part of their intergenerational wellbeing program.

- Stawell Senior Citizens for a curtain up-grade for both the stage and two front rooms at the Senior Citizens Hall. The stage curtains and the curtains in the front room had been there since the hall was opened in 1961 and are now in disrepair and need replacing.

Round two of the grants for 2019/2020 are open today, Monday 3 February, and will close on Monday 16 March.

The grants are always very competitive with a wide range of very worthy projects so all applicants are encouraged to contact the Community Engagement team on 03 5358 8700 or [email protected] to discuss their projects prior to submitting.

Apply online via council's website or drop into one of our customer service centres in Stawell or St Arnaud for a hard copy of the application form.
