Penrith City Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on the Draft Emu Plains Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan, now on public exhibition until Thursday 9 April 2026.
This study covers the suburbs of Emu Plains, Emu Heights and Leonay across approximately 10.8 square kilometres. The area is generally bounded by the Nepean River to the east and the local government area boundary to the west.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said community input plays an important role in shaping a plan that reflects local knowledge and priorities.
"Flooding can have a serious impact on homes, businesses and infrastructure, so it's vital that we plan ahead," said Cr Carney.
"This study gives us the tools to better understand flood behaviours and identify practical solutions. By sharing your feedback, you're helping us make informed decisions that protect our community."
Council has written to residents in the study area to seek their comments on the draft study and plan.
Residents can review the draft report and provide their feedback either in writing or online by Thursday 16 April 2026. Residents can also learn more about the draft report at Council's Community Information Session from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday 24 March at Emu Plains Community Hall, 4 Lawson St, Emu Plains.
